Specifications Of This Product:

  • Hefty 3-finger handle lets you carry fully loaded large-capacity bottle anywhere with ease

What I Like About This Product:

I would really like to get a Hydroflask or some other higher priced water bottle but I just cannot justify spending that kind of money.  And then I say “why”?  Why should I spend that kind of money if I do not have to, just to have a great name product.  This Bubba Trailblazer Water Bottle does everything the higher priced water bottles do at about 1/3 the price.  I can fill this water bottle full of ice and add water and I have cold water for at least 24 hours, without any sweating on the outside of the bottle at all.  If you store it in your refrigerator over-night, the ice cubes lasts for many days.

This water bottle has a very secure lid and the handle works great and does not feel flimsy at all.  It is an extremely sturdy water bottle and the colors will work for most peoples tastes.

What I Would Change About This Product:

As much as I like this water bottle there is one thing that I would change about this water bottle.  The outside surface of the water bottle is extremely smooth and can be difficult to hold on to some times.  My solution to this problem was to put some cloth tape around the middle of the bottle, end of issue.  If they used a textured paint when painting this water bottle, this would have solved that problem too.

Final Remarks:

The Bubba Trailblazer 40 oz. Stainless Steel Water Bottle is an excellent choice for anyone that needs a good water bottle.  It keeps your water cold for extended periods of time and will not sweat on the outside of the container.

No matter what kind of an active lifestyle you lead, this water bottle can work for you.  I highly recommend this water bottle for everyday use, it should hold up for a long time and do what you need it to do.

    Final Thoughts

Some people shop by price, because status is very important to them.  Others do not care about the price,  they feel practically is their main focus, can it do the job!  What kind of shopper are you?  Is status more important then how it works? I am very practical and I also hate to spend a bunch of money on something if I do not have to spend it.

All these water bottles can do the job, so which one is better?  I had a Hydro Flask and it was a very good water bottle but also very over-priced.  The Takeya was also very good too, but again more money then I wanted to spend.  Then I tried a Bubba Trailbrazer and I really like these water bottles, the price is not over the top and yet they keep things very cold for a long time.  It works for “hot” items too but I have not used it for that.  You might try it, I bet you will like it.

      Why Carry A Flashlight?

I consider a flashlight a necessary tool so I always carry a flashlight on my belt,  you just never know when it might come in handy.  There always seems to be situations where they might be used: hearing strange noises, light bulbs burning out or some such thing that makes me pull it off my belt.  If you can relate to this, you too may have an interest in a flashlight.  Here are a few things you might need to consider.

      Types Of Flashlights

What are the basic types of flashlights for you to consider:

      1. Keychain – A keychain flashlight is usually 3″ or less in length, their small size makes it easy to place them in your pocket, purse or backpack.  Many attach them to their keychains so they are ready at a moments notice. While they are very handy, the amount of light produced is minimal. They are intended for use as a backup or emergency form of light, not your primary source of light.
      2. Utility – The utility light is what most households have in their drawers or cabinet as a general flashlight.  While it works in a pinch it is not considered a serious form of flashlight. It’s usually a lightweight, plastic flashlight that gets the job done but not much more.  They are inexpensive and may not last over a few years.
      3. Tactical – A tactical flashlight is usually used in military or law enforcement applications during low-light conditions.  They are usually made of aluminum or high-grade plastics and emit a higher degree of light than most other lights.  Sometimes they are attached to firearms or in conjunction with a firearm to use in low-light conditions.  They are generally 3”–7” in length and are meant to be carried on your person as a self-defense tool.
      4. Heavy-Duty or Industrial – These are usually made of aluminum and can be rather large and heavy.  They are the typical Maglite style flashlights that might be in some people’s homes or work situations.  They are usually too big to fit in your pocket, they are generally 5”–14” so they are placed in tool boxes or trunks for easy access.
      5. Emergency – An emergency flashlight is not dependent upon batteries, they are either hand-cranked or solar powered flashlights.  These are really special types of lights reserved for emergency kits.

      When To Use a Flashlight

The primary purpose of a flashlight is to provide you with light in dark places.  The flashlight used to be just a basic light source that served only one purpose, now with their long-lasting, high-output LED light bulbs, flashlights cannot only light your way but do even more.  But with the advancement of technology in the design of flashlights, other uses came about.

The newer tactical-style flashlights are smaller, more rugged, and have a waterproof aluminum construction, they are very bright, and have high-capacity rechargeable battery.  Advances in flashlight technology have changed a flashlight into a valuable tool and for this reason, they are recommended for everyday carry (EDC). While most people have a flashlight on their smartphone these days, they are not very bright and you would not want to risk draining your phone battery just to use the light, thus not having a cell phone when you need one.

      Uses Of Flashlights

Used for ActivitiesRegardless of the activity, those of us who’ve tried running, hiking, walking, etc in the outdoors know and understand that low-light situations make it difficult to continue your activity without some type of flashlight. These situations seem to occur either in the early morning or late in the evening hours. Not only do we need to see, but we also need to be seen by motorists and other passersby. Theses flashlights for the active people are all relatively lightweight and therefore comfortable enough to wear while doing whatever you do.

Used Around the HouseFlashlights used around the house have a different set of standards than those for other needs. These particular flashlights typically have a stand or a base in which they may be housed for quick-and-easy retrieval.  With an around-the-house flashlight, you can easily locate and retrieve that lost item quickly and easily, before you forget its whereabouts entirely. Flashlights used for around the house are also handy for everyday activities, such as evening walks with the dog or when your parents come to visit. These portable lights are typically handheld, have a moderate-to-low output, and are rechargeable.

Used in Work SituationsWork flashlights are typically heavy-duty flashlights with long-lasting light sources that are rechargeable. Many times they may have special adaptive accessories to help with the specific jobs that they do. Mechanics lights may have magnetic bases to attach to the hood of a vehicle or Home inspectors, on the other hand, require handheld flashlights that are durable and tough yet cast a wide beam.

Good Self-Defense ToolA good tactical flashlight is a good choice as your self-defense weapon. The extremely powerful light not only brightens up your path but will immediately cause most people to stop and cover their eyes when shined directly at a person. Additionally, many tactical lights have a strobe feature which can be even more disorienting to an attacker. If you might have to fight, it is much easier to fight someone if they can’t see you or you can use it as a striking weapon with the sharp bezeled edges and the rugged aluminum construction.

      Final Thoughts About Flashlights

Now that we talked about types and uses of flashlights, it is time for you to think about whether you need to carry a flashlight or not.  How many times have you pulled out your phone because you needed a light for something?  And how many times have you drained your phone battery trying to get something done?  There is a simple solution, get a small flashlight and save your cell phone battery.  You will not regret it!

        SMITH’S POCKET PAL KNIFE SHARPENER

        Product Review

        Handy Little Sharpener

Product: Smith’s Pocket Pal Knife Sharpener

        Price: $10.36

        Durability: High

Best Place To Buy This Product: Amazon.com

        My Overall Rating: 9.0

        Quick Product Overview:

Smith’s new “Pocket Pal” Multi-Functional Knife Sharpener features pre-set crossed carbides and ceramic stones, which provide the “Perfect Edge” every time. Carbides provide quick edge setting, and the specially shaped ceramic stones are designed to give you a razor sharp edge on either standard or serrated edges. A fold out, tapered round, diamond coated rod is designed for sharpening serrations and small gut hooks. Unit is compact, lightweight, durable, and comes with a lanyard hole.

        Specifications Of This Product:

        • Tapered Round Diamond Coated Rod for Sharpening Serrated and Standard Edges
        • Carbide Blades (Coarse CARBIDE Slot) Quickly Set Your Edge
        • Ceramic Stones (Fine CERAMIC slot) Give You a Razor Sharp Edge
        • Reversible and Replaceable Carbide and Ceramic Stones for Extended Sharpening
        • Preset Sharpening Angles
        • Lanyard hole for Carrying

What I Like About This Product:

The two things that I like about this knife sharpener is  functionality and size.  This little sharpener really works!  Having both carbide blades and ceramic  stones make this Little Pal  a very good tool to use. The carbide blades are for coarse sharpening and the ceramic stones are to get a finer sharpening of that knife.  Not to forget the round diamond coated rod that works well for serrated edges.  You put that all together in a package that fits in your pocket and what more could you ask for.

What I Would Change About This Product:

This little sharpener works so well for me I do not have any changes for it.

        Final Remarks:

I have used this Smith’s Pocket Pal for many years and it has worked great for me.  Is this what I use to put a good edge on my knives at home, No!  But it goes in my backpack and I use it in the field to touch up my knives when the need arrises.  I highly recommend this knife sharpener to keep your knives sharp!

WORK SHARP KNIFE & TOOL SHARPENER

          Product Review

The Best Knife Sharpener I Have Ever Used

Product: Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpener

          Price: $69.95

          Durability: High

Best Place To Buy This Product: Amazon.com

          My Overall Rating: 9.0

          Quick Product Overview:

The Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpener is the first knife sharpener designed to sharpen every knife you own. Using flexible abrasive belts, the sharpener is able to sharpen not just straight bladed knives, but also curved knives, tanto blades, filet knives, serrated knives, gut hooks and virtually any other shape of knife blade. The Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpener uses precision angle sharpening guides to ensure that you get the proper angle every time. Two guides are included: a 50° guide for hunting and outdoor knives (25° per bevel) and a 40° guide for thinner blades and kitchen knives (20° per bevel).

Professional knife makers use flexible belts to put a razor sharp edge on their blades, and now you can have the same technology at home to use any time your knives get dull. Sharpening scissors requires the use of the scissor guide. Freehand sharpening cannot create the consistent edge necessary for scissors to cut. The scissor guide is set at 65° based on the most common scissor edge angles. The guide is designed for common “household” size scissors, including kitchen and shop shears. A 60° angled scissor guide is available on the optional 40° Outdoor Knife Guide. It is possible to regrind damaged scissor blades to 65° or 60° angle regardless of the original angle of the edge.

What I Like About This Product:

This sharpening system is extremely easy to use and the end results are excellent.  The directions are very easy to follow, so your knife sharpening experience is a good one.  With the flexible belt and the guides it takes most of the chance for error away.  This is a great knife sharpener.

What I Would Change About This Product:

This machine is well thought out and therefore has removed problems associated with it’s use.  I do not have any things to change at the moment.

          Final Remarks:

The Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpener is a very easy knife sharpener to use.  After one or two knives, you begin to get the hang of using it.  In my opinion, a sharp knife is the only kind to have.  A “dull” knife does not work as it should, you might as well be using a butter knife.  This machine makes it possible to keep your knves sharp and alway ready for whatever you need them to do.  I highly recommend this knife sharpener.

            FOX 479/499 FOLDING KARAMBIT KNIVES

            Product Review

An Excellent Folding Karambit at a Reasonable Price

Product: Fox 479 or 599 Karambit Knife

            Price: $116.12 – 127.46

            Durability: Very High

Best Place To Buy This Product: Amazon.com

            My Overall Rating: 9.5

            Quick Product Overview

The Fox 479 G10 Black Folding Karambit is the best self-defense tool and utility knife available on the market. Whether you need a utility knife to open boxes and clamshell packaging or a reliable self-defense tool, Fox karambits are a force to be reckoned with. If you want the most reliability in any situation where a need arises for a good blade that works and works well, this is your knife.

This knife utilizes the Emerson Wave, which is the most effective and efficient deployment option available in the knife industry. The patented Emerson Wave allows you to fully deploy your karambit effortlessly with just one hand. It is strong, has a consistent edge with a high degree of sharpening,  with enhanced edge retention.  Very easy to conceal.  It has a safety ring for a sure and secure grip, even in extreme environments and the safety ring allows you to utilize in less-than lethal situations by keeping the closed karambit in your hand.  Works for hand sizes measuring 3.6″ or over across the back of your knuckles. If smaller, see Fox 599

            Attachment – Reversible Clip

            Emerson Wave – Yes

What I Like About This Product:

This knife feels really good in my hand, has a lightweight feel, smooth to the touch. The Blade comes very sharp right out of the box and it did not need any “touch-ups” with my ceramic stone. The lockup is tight, there is zero play in the blade, this Karambit is well made and sturdy. The patented wave-shaped opening mechanism makes this knife open very easily when deploying it from my pocket.  While it does take some practice getting it to open from your pocket, this mechanism works very well.

What I Would Change About This Product:

One thing that I was not aware of until after I purchased this knife.  When purchasing this knife through Amazon or another online store, Fox knives will not insure their knives due to “being unable to confirm the original source of the product or reliability of the seller” this goes for all genuine fox karambits.

            Final Remarks:

This Fox Karambit Folding Knife is a very beautiful and great knife, for the price, this is one of the best self-defense tools available. The grip is very solid due to the finger grips of the handle, it really fits my hand very well.  The blade is made from N690 stainless steel which came very sharp and seems to hold a good edge.  One of the big positives for this knife is the Emerson wave feature, that helps you deploy the blade with only one hand.  Since this mechanism is not real aggressive, it does take some practice to become successful with it.  Mine came with a hex key to change the location of the pocket clip.  I highly recommend this folding karambit for self defense use.

Keep Your Knives Sharp – Use A Good Knife Sharpener

Knives are awesome tools!  They come in all shapes and sizes, folding or fixed blade.  But that wonderful sharp blade that came out of the box will not stay that way for very long under normal use.  You will need a way to get that blade back to a useful sharpness so it can do it’s job.  There are many sharpeners on the market that will sharpen your knives, some better than others.  In this article I will talk about a few that I know to be good and then you can make up your own mind.  But it is important to keep your knives SHARP, otherwise why carry them with you!

Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpener

The Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpener is the first knife sharpener designed to sharpen every knife you own. Using flexible abrasive belts, the sharpener is able to sharpen not just straight bladed knives, but also curved knives, tanto blades, filet knives, serrated knives, gut hooks and virtually any other shape of knife blade. The Knife & Tool Sharpener uses precision angle sharpening guides to ensure that you get the proper angle every time.

You may already have other sharpening methods, but never before has a knife sharpener been able to quickly and easily sharpen this broad range of knives to such extremely sharp results.

It also sharpens other common tools including scissors*, axes, hatchets, mower blades, garden shears, shovels, and most any tool with a cutting edge.

              Benchmade Guided Field Sharpener

The Guided Field Sharpener is a compact knife and tool sharpener designed for use in the field. Built-in 20 degree angle guides ensure a consistent bevel angle across the entire edge of the blade. Five abrasive steps provide a complete sharpening solution. All elements are self contained and require no assembly in the field.  Sharpen many other other tools including scissors, fish hooks, broadheads and more.

              Spyderco Tri-Angle Premium Sharpmaker Set

The key to sharpening any cutting tool is removing the steel at the edge while maintaining a consistent angle between the blade and the stone. Spyderco’s Tri-Angle Sharpmaker takes the mystery out of this process and enables anyone to sharpen a knife effectively with just a few minutes practice. Its durable ABS plastic base contains keyed holes that accurately set the stones’ sharpening angles at a 30° (15° each side) or 40° (20° each side) for sharpening knives. Simply keep the plane of your knife’s blade vertical and draw the edge along each stone to sharpen. It’s that simple. For serrated blades, use the rounded edges of the stones and a slightly looser grip to allow the stone to flow into the recesses of each serration. The Sharpmaker system includes two sets of high alumina ceramic stones: a pair of medium-grit (brown) stones for aggressive sharpening and a set of fine (white) stones for professional-grade finishing. A set of aluminum safety rods protects your hands while sharpening and all components snap into the self-contained ABS plastic base and lid for easy storage. Every Sharpmaker comes complete with a detailed instruction book and DVD that guides you step by step through the process of sharpening knives, scissors, awls, and many other tools.

              Smith's Pocket Pal

Smith’s new “Pocket Pal” Multi-Functional Knife Sharpener features pre-set crossed carbides and ceramic stones, which provide the “Perfect Edge” every time. Carbides provide quick edge setting, and the specially shaped ceramic stones are designed to give you a razor sharp edge on either standard or serrated edges. A fold out, tapered round, diamond coated rod is designed for sharpening serrations and small gut hooks. Unit is compact, lightweight, durable, and comes with a lanyard hole.

              Lansky C-Sharp

The Lansky C-Sharp features four sharpening angles (17º, 20º, 25º, and 30º) in 600 grit ceramic. It also has an 800 grit fine ceramic benchstone that can be used for polishing straight or serrated blades.  Perfect as a Lansky System accessory, or as a stand-alone sharpening solution, the C-Sharp offers the same great features as the QuadSharp, in an all-ceramic option.

Work Sharp EDC Pivot  Knife Sharpener

The Work Sharp EDC Pivot Knife Sharpener is a fast, easy and effective way to sharpen any knife you own. Convex Carbides quickly restore a sharp edge; while the fine grit ceramic rods hone the edge to factory level sharpness. Pivot Response follows the curve of the blade when sharpening making it easier and more consistent. Additional medium grit diamond sharpening surface is ideal for touching up knives, tools and even fishhooks. Compact size easily stows in your pack, pocket, tool or tackle box.

              Final Remarks

Each one of the knife sharpeners mentioned work very well, I have my favorite but I will mention it later.  The first three sharpeners are larger and are better used at home.  While the last three are pocket- type knife sharprners that can be used when you are at work or at play.  My favorite sharpener is the Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpener, it is easy to use and works very well.  The price is fairly reasonable for the quality of sharpening that it does and I would highly recommend this a a good quality knife sharpener.  As for the pocket sharpeners, I still like the Smith’s Pocket Pal.  I have used them for years and they do a good job.  I am not saying they are better then the others, I am most familiar with the Pocket Pal and use it more often.  Check them out, you will not be disappointed.

COMP-TAC KICK & MUDDY RIVER TACTICAL CLAW

                Product Review

These are two examples of a holster accessory that is available for many different holsters right now that all have the same end result.  They push on your belt from the inside of your pants and twist your holster so the butt of your gun is pushed inward toward your body.  I initially thought it was for appendix carry holsters only but they also work for any IWB holster.  I feel they are a necessity if you want your handgun to conceal well.

                Product: Muddy River Claw

                Durability: Very High

                My Overall Rating: 9.5

                Quick Product Overview:

The claw or kick attachments hit the market roughly a year ago and is now made by multiple companies.  These attachments are designed to ride against your belt, on the outside of the trigger guard to push the grip of the firearm towards your body.  It is quite amazing the difference it can make on mid to full size firearms.  These attachments were initially designed strictly for appendix carry.  But now they have had success in all  IWB carry holster positions.  If you are having any issues with concealment at all, this may be the answer to your prayers!  Many people are now looking to upgrade to a  IWB Kydex Holster with Claw or kick to take your concealment to the next level!

                Specifications Of This Product:

These attachments are available in left and right hand. The holes of the are minimum .5″ apart and maximum .75″ to be used with multiple holster products.

What I Like About This Product:

The minute I put them on my holsters I could feel the difference.  The gun butt immediately turned toward my body and held it there.  There was not the slightest printing of my handgun through my cover garment.  So they work really well.

What I Would Change About This Product:

This attachments works very well and does not need to be changed.

                Final Remarks:

These are two examples of products that are made on the market. I used these two examples because I have their holsters.  If you are interested in this type of attachment, check with your specific holster maker first to see if they have this attachment.  If they are made for your specific holster, it will fit perfectly.  If they do not have them, then think about ordering from another holster maker.  Regardless of who you get them from, they really help your concealability and I highly recommend them.

                  GUNFIGHTERS, INC., KENAI CHEST HOLSTER

                  Product Review

One Of The Best Outdoor Holster Made

Product: Gunfighters, INC, Kenai Chest Holster

                  Price: $150.00

                  Durability: Very High

Best Place To Buy This Product: Amazon.com

                  My Overall Rating: 9.5

                  Quick Product Overview:

The Kenai Chest Holster was designed as the ultimate way to carry a firearm when hiking, camping, backpacking or any other outdoor activity where having a firearm on your hip is inconvenient or impossible.  This holster was designed for all day comfort, no matter what you’re doing in the outdoors, the placement of the firearm on your chest enables you to be ready for anything, without compromising on comfort or your choice of firearm.  When a firearm is placed in a secure and comfortable position, it is more easily ready to draw when needed. The Kenai Chest Holster is a perfect pairing with a modern firearm such as the Glock 40 MOS or a classic big bore revolver such as the Ruger Super Redhawk.   You can carry as big of a gun as you’d like with maximum comfort and accessibility.

                  Specifications Of This Product:

These holsters are made of a blend of Kydex and Nylon for excellent retention characteristics, unyielding to weather and light weight.  The buckles are strategically located to be out of way of pack straps, rifle slings and binocular slings. The wide, flat webbing maximizes comfort while preventing chafing or hot spots.  It’s adjustable for most body types and can be worn low or high on the chest.  The harness has a 4-way stretch yoke to increase comfort and mobility.  The yoke was designed so that it sits flat to reduce pressure points while wearing a backpack – an important consideration when carrying a heavy load.  Your firearm is available without fumbling with snaps, straps, zippers, or buttons.

The harness is sewn in house by GunfightersINC of 100% US made Nylon.  It’s solution-dyed for long-term durability and color fastness.  Additionally, all thread is coated with waterproofing and is UV resistant for a long lifespan.

What I Like About This Product:

This holster is extremely handy and can even be worn with a backpack that has a waist belt.  I like Kydex so this holster is a natural for me.  It fits your handgun perfectly and the nylon webbing and buckles work great no matter what the weather.  The firearm snaps in this holster very securely so whether you are riding a horse, on a 4-wheeler, hiking, walking or anything else in the outdoors, this holster really works.

What I Would Change About This Product:

I really like this holster and harness system and while I have used it for the last year, I have not found anything that I would change about this holster.

                  Final Remarks:

The Kenai Chest Holster is a rock solid outdoor holster.  The materials used can really defy the elements very well.  Rain, hail or snow, it works and works very well.  The design of this holster keeps it secure, where you need it to be.  The centered position on the chest allows for a quick draw from any position, even when wearing bulky winter clothing or seated in a vehicle.  No need to rig things together  or carry your firearm in your pack or on your hip.  The Kenai Chest Holster gives you the confidence you need in that split moment when every second matters. Having your handgun on your chest makes it easy to get to no matter what you have on your back.  I highly recommend this holster because it works, yes it is not cheap, but good things seldom are these days.

What I Like About This Product:

This is an excellent knife for the money.  This knife is an $11.00 knife and is made extremely well for that price. It was pretty sharp right out of the box but I touched it up with my ceramic stone and it is very sharp now.  I use it with my appendix holster as a last ditch self defense knife. Since this is only a self defense knife, I do not cut paper. cardboard, etc. with it, I just keep it for self defense use only.  It comes with a plastic sheath that is OK, but not the best in my book, I will elaborate below.  My hands are about average size and this knife fits my hand very well with minimal hot spots.

What I Would Change About This Product:

The knife itself is very functional but the sheath needs some work.  The belt clip is terrible, it does not really work at all.  You can slip it on the belt but it does not stay securely.  It would be easy to drill out the rivots and rivot a new belt clip that would work, even a belt loop would be better then what came with it.  The sheath is very tight so if you attached a belt clip that would hold the sheath on your belt, it might loosen up with use.  I am going to make my own sheath out of Kydex, using a toaster oven and a clamp setup that I already make.  When I get this done I may do a quick article on how it is done.  I cannot justify spending $30 – 40 on a new sheath for an $11 knife.

                    Final Remarks:

I do not mind buying knives that are inexpensive, as long as they are comfortable and functional and this Mtech 664 BK Tactical Karambit knife is both to me.  This knife holds a good edge, sharpens easily and is comfortable in my hand.  I bought this as a self defense weopon and it can be used exactly for the purpose I desired.  If you are looking for a good last ditch knife for self defense, this might be the one you are looking for.  I highly recommend this knife but do not recommend the sheath as was shipped to me.
